The trade organization of Swedish breweries

The Swedish Brewers Association (Sveriges Bryggerier) works to improve the market position of our member companies’ products: beer, cider, bottled water and soft drinks. We are also coordinating deposit and recycling systems, such as the red and blue returnable crates. We are part-owner of both the recycling company Returpack, aiming to increase the recycling of metal cans and PET bottles, and the reprocessing plant Swedish Glass Recycling (Svensk Glasåtervinning AB).

The total volume of business of the sector is close to SEK 15 billion annually. The industry has approximately 4000 employees, and generates 60 000 jobs in Sweden. The Swedish Brewers Association is working internationally as a member of Brewers of Europe, the united voice of breweries across the continent, and UNESDA-CISDA, the European trade association of the soft drinks industry.

The Swedish Brewers Association was founded in 1885 as “Svenska Bryggareföreningen”, and is the oldest active trade organization in Sweden. Back then, we were working to standardize bottles and crates in order to create the world’s first bottle deposit system. We were also promoting reasonable taxation on beer and small beer.
