An industry on the rise

The Swedish brewing industry is in constant flux. Beer is attracting more interest than it has for a very long time, even though we are nowhere near the more than 500 different breweries active in the late 19th century. In the early 90s, the number of breweries had dwindled to about twenty, but today almost 250 commercial breweries are operating in Sweden. Thirty of them are members of the Swedish Brewers Association, and the member breweries account for 96 percent of all beer, cider, bottled water and soft drinks produced in the country.

All of our members are presented on the Members page.

The History page recaps what Swedish breweries have achieved during the last 150 years.

The list of breweries and the map was updated on 17 June 2016, with the assistance of Johan Lenner, Portersteken.
